Real Madrid Move Ahead of PSG in Race for Yan Diomande
Real Madrid are closing in on the signing of RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande after Paris Saint-Germain withdrew from the transfer race. The 19-year-old Ivory Coast international has reportedly agreed personal terms with Madrid, with the Spanish giants confident of completing a deal worth up to €135 million.
PSG End Their Pursuit
PSG had emerged as strong contenders for Diomande after his outstanding breakthrough season in Germany. However, the French club formally withdrew their interest on Sunday, ending their pursuit of the teenager.
The decision came after PSG reportedly had a final bid of £102.5 million rejected by Leipzig. The French champions said the transfer fee and salary demands were disproportionate and conflicted with their principles on financial management and squad balance.
PSG's withdrawal leaves Real Madrid in a commanding position. Madrid are now pushing to finalise the transfer, with sources indicating the deal could be completed between Monday and Tuesday.
Madrid Agree Personal Terms
Real Madrid have already agreed personal terms with Diomande, according to reports. His proposed contract is understood to be structured similarly to Jude Bellingham's, with performance incentives that could increase his earnings over time.
The total package is expected to reach €135 million, including variables. The fixed transfer fee is reportedly between €115 million and €120 million, potentially making Diomande the most expensive signing in Real Madrid history. That figure would surpass the fees paid for Bellingham and Eden Hazard. It would also underline the club's belief in a winger who has rapidly become one of Europe's most sought-after young attackers.
Diomande's Rapid Rise
Diomande's rise has been remarkably quick. He moved from Ivory Coast to the United States in 2025 before joining Spanish side Leganes, initially featuring for their reserve team. He made six senior starts for Leganes and scored twice before RB Leipzig paid around €20 million to sign him. His first Bundesliga campaign then established him as one of Europe's most exciting emerging forwards.
Diomande scored 12 goals and provided eight assists during the 2025-26 Bundesliga season. His performances helped Leipzig finish third, while he was also named the league's young player of the season. The winger also impressed during the 2026 World Cup with Ivory Coast. He played in all four of his country's matches and created 11 chances before their campaign ended with a round-of-32 defeat by Norway.
What Happens Next?
Real Madrid now expect to complete the agreement with Leipzig, although the final details of the transfer still need to be concluded. The German club had previously rejected a €100 million bid and wanted a significantly higher guaranteed fee.
Diomande's arrival would add another attacking option to new coach Jose Mourinho's squad. Madrid have already signed Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konate, Bernardo Silva and Denzel Dumfries this summer.
The transfer is not necessarily linked to Vinicius Junior's future, despite growing speculation around the Brazilian. Madrid still want Vinicius to remain, while Diomande's ability to operate on the right could allow both players to feature together.
