The 23-year-old went down following a collision with defender Hugo Bueno. Although he initially got back on his feet, he soon collapsed again, prompting medical staff to intervene and carry him from the pitch.
Reports suggest the injury could involve damage to the anterior cruciate ligament, bringing an abrupt end to his season at a crucial stage.
Simons shared his reaction on social media, describing the situation as devastating and difficult to accept. He said he was struggling to come to terms with the sudden end to his season and the loss of the opportunity to represent his country.
The injury also rules him out of the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, which begins on 11 June in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The Netherlands are scheduled to open their campaign in Group F against Japan on 14 June.
He expressed disappointment at missing the tournament, stating that playing for his national side had been a major goal. Despite the setback, he vowed to remain supportive of his team-mates and focus on recovery.
The injury comes at a difficult moment for Tottenham, who are fighting to stay in the Premier League. The club currently sits in 18th place, two points away from safety with four matches remaining.
