
Borussia Dortmund beat Freiburg 4-0 to secure Champions League qualification, with goals from Beier, Guirassy, Bensebaini and Silva.
Borussia Dortmund confirmed their place in next season’s Champions League with a dominant 4-0 win over Freiburg. The result at Signal Iduna Park capped a commanding display from Niko Kovac’s side. It also ensured they cannot be caught outside the top four. Dortmund bounced back strongly after recent back-to-back setbacks. Their intensity and efficiency proved too much for a fatigued Freiburg side.
Dortmund wasted no time asserting themselves. They opened the scoring in the eighth minute through Maximilian Beier. Ramy Bensebaini’s long ball split the defence and Beier finished calmly.
The hosts doubled their lead just six minutes later. Julian Brandt delivered a precise pass into the box. Serhou Guirassy converted from close range for his 15th league goal of the season.
Dortmund’s fast start overwhelmed Freiburg early on. They dominated possession and created multiple chances in quick succession.

Freiburg showed more intent in the second half. They pushed forward in search of a goal and briefly improved their attacking play. Lukas Kubler thought he had scored in the 54th minute. However, the effort was ruled out for offside after a VAR review. That decision halted any hopes of a comeback. Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel also made key saves to preserve the clean sheet.
The tempo dropped as Dortmund managed their advantage. Both teams made changes that disrupted the rhythm of the game.
Dortmund still carried a threat on the counter. Substitute Fabio Silva sealed the win in the 87th minute. He turned smartly inside the box and finished into the corner. The fourth goal capped a complete team performance. Dortmund ended the match with a comfortable margin and renewed confidence. Freiburg, meanwhile, could not recover from their poor start.
The result marked Dortmund’s sixth consecutive home league game against Freiburg with at least three goals scored. It also extended Freiburg’s struggles against top sides.
Beier impressed throughout and marked his milestone appearance with a goal. He also recorded the highest top speed on the pitch at 33.79 km per hour. Guirassy’s clinical finishing and movement were vital early on.
Bensebaini contributed both a goal and an assist. Brandt controlled the tempo and created key opportunities in attack. Dortmund’s defensive structure ensured they rarely looked vulnerable. The early double blow and third goal before half-time defined the match. Freiburg never recovered from that opening spell.
Dortmund will aim to finish the season strongly with three matches remaining. Their focus now shifts to securing the highest possible league position. Freiburg must regroup quickly after a demanding week. They return to league action against Wolfsburg next weekend looking to improve their form. Ending the season positively will be their priority. But before that, they have a Europa League semifinal against Braga. Dortmund, however, can already celebrate an objective achieved. Champions League football is secured once again.
