Bournemouth are nearing the appointment of Marco Rose as their next head coach, with the German expected to replace Andoni Iraola following confirmation that the current manager will leave at the end of the season. While Iraola’s exit represents a setback, it had been anticipated within the club.
The Cherries had already been planning for a transition and had explored several options, including Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna and Rayo Vallecano’s Inigo Perez, before progressing towards Rose as their preferred candidate.
Iraola acknowledged awareness of potential successors but declined to discuss individuals in detail, stating that the decision ultimately rests with the club. He indicated he would be willing to share his views once an appointment is finalized.
Rose, 49, has been without a managerial role since his dismissal by RB Leipzig in March 2025 and has yet to work in English football. His background includes spells at Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Mönchengladbach, and Red Bull Salzburg, where he built a reputation through his work in both youth and senior setups.
He began his coaching journey at local side Loch Leipzig before progressing through the Salzburg academy, where he achieved success at the youth level before stepping into senior management.
The German coach has also been linked with other roles, including consideration by Tottenham Hotspur after the dismissal of Thomas Frank earlier in the year.
Rose is associated with the Red Bull football philosophy, which emphasizes pressing and intensity. This approach could align with Bournemouth’s current playing style, as the team has recorded the highest number of interceptions in the Premier League this season and commits a high number of fouls, often a byproduct of aggressive pressing.
Although his later period at RB Leipzig did not bring consistent success, a move to a new league and environment could offer him an opportunity to adapt and develop further as a coach.
The potential switch to England represents a fresh challenge for Rose, as Bournemouth looks to maintain its identity while entering a new phase under different leadership.
