The U.S. squad wore newly introduced Nike shirts featuring red and white horizontal stripes designed to resemble a waving flag, drawing inspiration from their 1994 World Cup uniforms, which had vertical striping. Belgium, meanwhile, appeared in Adidas away kits combining a pale tone known as Frozen Blue with pink and black accents, influenced by the work of surrealist artist René Magritte.
