Alisson Becker has pulled out of the Brazil national team squad due to an injury, which will also keep him out of Liverpool FC’s Premier League meeting with Brighton & Hove Albion. The 33-year-old did not travel with the squad for the fixture at the Amex Stadium.
Liverpool has not disclosed specific details about the issue, and head coach Arne Slot had not raised any concerns regarding the goalkeeper’s condition prior to the match. Despite the lack of clarity, his absence has been confirmed for both club and international duties.
In his place, Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to start between the posts, continuing his role as deputy when Alisson is unavailable.
Following Alisson’s withdrawal, Carlo Ancelotti has called up Hugo Souza as a replacement for Brazil’s upcoming matches. The national side is scheduled to face France and Croatia in the United States on March 26 and April 1.
The change comes at a time when Brazil are preparing for important fixtures, and the adjustment ensures they maintain depth in the goalkeeping position despite the late alteration.
Alisson’s absence marks another interruption to his international involvement, as fitness concerns continue to affect his availability at key moments.
The Liverpool goalkeeper had already missed the first leg of the Champions League round-of-16 tie against Galatasaray earlier in March due to what was described as a minor problem. On that occasion, Mamardashvili stepped in and later retained his place as part of the squad rotation.
Alisson returned to action afterward, featuring in a draw against Tottenham and a 4-0 victory in the return leg against Galatasaray. Earlier in the season, he had also been sidelined for eight matches across October and November because of a hamstring injury.
Mamardashvili has made 12 appearances in all competitions this season, providing consistent cover. Liverpool currently sits fifth in the league standings as they aim for Champions League qualification, while Brighton occupies the 12th position.
