Harry Kane scores twice to reach 50 Champions League goals as Bayern Munich beat Atalanta 4-1 and advance 10-2 on aggregate.
Bayern Munich powered into the Champions League quarter-finals with a commanding 4-1 win over Atalanta. The German giants sealed a dominant 10-2 aggregate victory at the Allianz Arena.
It was another statement performance, led by Harry Kane, who reached a historic milestone on the night.
Bayern started on the front foot, controlling possession and creating early chances. Their pressure paid off in the 25th minute when they were awarded a penalty after a handball inside the box. Kane stepped up but saw his initial effort saved. However, the goalkeeper had moved early, and the penalty was retaken. This time, Kane made no mistake, firing home to give Bayern the lead.
Atalanta struggled to respond despite a few attempts, with Bayern maintaining control through the remainder of the first half. The hosts went into the break with a narrow but comfortable 1-0 lead.
Bayern came out stronger in the second half and quickly took control of the game. Kane doubled the lead in the 54th minute with a brilliant individual effort, shrugging off defenders before finding the top corner. That goal marked his 50th in the Champions League, achieved in just 66 appearances. It placed him among the fastest players to reach the milestone.
The floodgates soon opened. Just two minutes later, teenager Lennart Karl added a third after combining well with Luis Díaz. Bayern were now in complete command.
The fourth goal arrived in the 70th minute and summed up Bayern’s dominance. Karl turned provider this time, setting up Díaz, who calmly lifted the ball over the goalkeeper.
Atalanta managed a late consolation through Lazar Samardžić in the 85th minute. However, it did little to change the outcome of a one-sided contest.
Bayern’s attacking quality and clinical finishing proved too much. Their movement and passing repeatedly exposed Atalanta’s defensive weaknesses.
Kane was the undisputed star, scoring twice and leading from the front. His movement, finishing, and composure stood out throughout the match. Karl impressed with a goal and an assist, showing maturity beyond his years. Díaz also made a strong impact, contributing both a goal and an assist in the second half.
Bayern’s overall structure and intensity were key. They controlled the tempo and limited Atalanta’s opportunities for long periods.
Bayern’s dominance was reflected in the numbers. They registered 25 shots compared to Atalanta’s 14, creating far more clear chances. Their expected goals tally stood at 3.61 to Atalanta’s 2.30, highlighting their attacking efficiency. Kane alone contributed significantly to that figure.
Atalanta created some opportunities but lacked consistency in the final third. Bayern’s defensive shape ensured they remained largely untroubled.
Bayern Munich now prepare for a heavyweight quarter-final clash against Real Madrid. The first leg is scheduled for early April, with the return leg a week later. Before that, Bayern return to domestic competition as they continue their push for silverware across multiple fronts this season.
