The 27-year-old missed several matches after being diagnosed with the injury shortly after Real’s La Liga encounter with Osasuna on 21 February. His absence had raised concerns about his availability for the crucial European tie.
Head coach Alvaro Arbeloa confirmed in a press conference that the France international is now fit and ready to play. He expressed enthusiasm about having Mbappe back, highlighting both his goal-scoring ability and overall influence on the team’s performance.
Arbeloa suggested Mbappe’s return will be significant for Real, emphasizing his importance not only in finishing chances but also in contributing to the team’s overall play.
Jude Bellingham, however, will not take part in the match despite travelling with the squad. The midfielder has been recovering from a hamstring injury suffered early in a league fixture against Rayo Vallecano on 1 February.
The 22-year-old had initially been expected to return within four weeks, but further assessment revealed the issue was more serious than first anticipated. His recovery has therefore taken longer than planned.
Although unavailable for the game, Bellingham joined the squad in Manchester to support his teammates. Arbeloa explained that the midfielder will continue partial training but is not ready to feature on the pitch.
The coach also noted the psychological boost Bellingham’s presence provides, describing him as a key figure in the squad and a future leader whose involvement off the field still carries value.
Real Madrid head into the second leg with a commanding lead after a 3-0 victory in the first meeting at the Santiago Bernabeu. Federico Valverde was the standout performer, scoring all three goals in the first half.
The Spanish side could have extended their advantage further, but Gianluigi Donnarumma denied Vinicius Jr. from the penalty spot early in the second half.
With a significant cushion, Real travel to Manchester in a strong position as they aim to secure progression to the next round of the competition.
