Como 1907 president Mirwan Suwarso has spoken about the long-term prospects of head coach Cesc Fàbregas and where his career on the bench could eventually lead.
At the moment, the Spaniard appears comfortable with his role at Como. At the conclusion of the previous campaign, he turned down an opportunity to move to Inter Milan, choosing instead to remain with the lake side.
The team is currently occupying a position that would secure qualification for the UEFA Champions League, which further strengthens the argument for the coach to continue his work at the club.
Because of the team’s progress, a departure would likely require a determined effort from clubs hoping to secure his services.
Suwarso addressed the subject during an interview with Revista Undici, where he praised the coach and acknowledged the possibility that bigger teams may try to bring him in.
According to the Como president, it would be unrealistic not to consider that one day Fàbregas might take charge of clubs such as Arsenal FC, FC Barcelona, or Chelsea FC.
Suwarso explained that if the Spaniard continues achieving results and building success with Como, the chance to pursue larger ambitions could naturally appear.
Even so, he reiterated that the coach plays a crucial role at the club and remains a key figure in the project.
Despite his importance, Suwarso admitted the club must prepare for the possibility that the Spaniard will not remain forever. As a result, Como is considering how to structure a future plan should he eventually move on.
The president expressed hope that while Fàbregas stays with the club, he will contribute to developing a long-term strategy that also includes identifying the person capable of succeeding him.
Suwarso even suggested that the coach should be involved in selecting the next manager. As a member of the Board of Football, he is expected to help the club in the decision-making process regarding the future appointment.
