Bayern Munich recorded an emphatic victory against Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga, strengthening their grip on first place even without leading scorer Harry Kane.
The England forward missed his first league appearance of the campaign after suffering a calf problem earlier in the week. Speaking about the injury, head coach Vincent Kompany explained that the issue is not considered serious.
Any concern about the missing striker quickly disappeared on the pitch. Bayern’s attack remained effective and controlled the game, ensuring the defending champions maintained their momentum in the title race.
The result allowed the Munich side to widen the distance at the summit of the standings while continuing a season marked by prolific scoring.
The opening breakthrough arrived thanks to Luis Díaz, whose volley put Bayern ahead during the first half. The former Liverpool FC winger later contributed again by creating the next goal.
Shortly before the interval, Díaz supplied the pass for Konrad Laimer, who struck powerfully to double the advantage and give the visitors firm control of the contest.
After the break, Bayern added another when Rocco Reitz was dismissed for hauling down Nicolas Jackson inside the penalty area. The referee pointed to the spot, allowing Jamal Musiala to calmly convert the penalty and increase the lead.
Jackson, currently on loan from Chelsea FC, later joined the scoresheet himself by finishing from close range to make it four for the visitors.
Although the match was already decided, the home side managed a late moment of encouragement. Seventeen-year-old Wael Mohya found the net to record a consolation strike and became the youngest scorer in Mönchengladbach’s history.
Bayern’s success leaves them 14 points clear at the top of the league table. The team has now produced 92 goals in the current campaign, moving within nine of the Bundesliga record they set back in 1971.
While absent from this match, Kane remains in pursuit of a major individual milestone. The striker has scored 30 league goals and still has nine fixtures remaining as he attempts to surpass Robert Lewandowski’s record of 41 in a single Bundesliga season.
The England captain is expected to be available again when Bayern travels to face Atalanta BC in the UEFA Champions League. Meanwhile, Mönchengladbach remain near the bottom of the standings, sitting three points above Werder Bremen, who occupy the relegation playoff position.
