Michail Antonio set for short-term switch to Al-Sailiya

Michail Antonio is preparing to join Qatari side Al-Sailiya on a brief contract as he continues his return to regular club action after a serious car accident.

The 35-year-old forward had been working out with Charlton Athletic and entered preliminary discussions with the Championship outfit about a potential pay-as-you-play arrangement.

However, he is now expected to sign with Al-Sailiya for the remainder of their campaign, which has six fixtures still to be played.

The transfer to the Qatari Stars League team is understood to be at an advanced stage, with official confirmation anticipated in the coming days.

Recovery and recent activity

Antonio has not appeared in a competitive match in England since suffering multiple leg fractures in a crash in Essex in December 2024.

Despite that setback, he represented Jamaica at the Concacaf Gold Cup in June.

Earlier in the season, he was released by West Ham, where he remains the club’s record Premier League scorer.

Interest from English clubs

Following his departure, the striker held discussions with Brentford and Leicester City regarding possible moves, but no agreements were reached.

Portsmouth head coach John Mousinho also confirmed he had considered bringing Antonio to the club.

In an interview with the BBC in March, Antonio reflected on the accident, stating he felt he was “close to dying” and described the experience as being given “another chance at life”.
