Inter cruise past Sassuolo 5-0 to move eight points clear in Serie A as Dimarco shines and Lautaro Martinez reaches a major club milestone.
Inter strengthened their hold on top spot with a dominant 5-0 away win over Sassuolo. The Nerazzurri moved eight points clear after another authoritative league display. It marked their eighth straight Serie A away victory. Sassuolo struggled to cope with Inter’s pace and structure from the opening minutes.
Cristian Chivu’s side showed maturity and control throughout. They punished errors and capitalised on set pieces. The gap at the summit now looks increasingly significant, although second-placed AC Milan have a game in hand.
Sassuolo nearly shocked the visitors inside the opening minute. Ismael Kone’s effort was cleared off the line by Federico Dimarco. That moment set the tone for Dimarco’s influential evening.
Inter settled quickly and began to dominate territory. Their pressure paid off in the 11th minute. Dimarco’s corner was met by Yann Bisseck, who headed firmly past the goalkeeper.
Inter continued to attack with confidence and width. Bisseck went close again before Dimarco rattled the crossbar from a tight angle. Sassuolo were pinned deep and struggling to clear lines.
The second goal arrived on 28 minutes. Dimarco delivered a precise low cross from the left. Marcus Thuram timed his run well and finished from close range.
Sassuolo thought they had pulled one back just before half time. Kristian Thorstvedt converted from close range. VAR intervened and ruled the effort out for offside.
Inter wasted little time after the interval. In the 50th minute, Lautaro Martinez drilled a low finish into the corner. The goal carried historic significance for the captain.
Three minutes later, Inter struck again. Manuel Akanji rose highest to head home another Dimarco corner for his first-ever Inter goal. Sassuolo’s frustration boiled over immediately.
Nemanja Matic was dismissed for dissent moments after the fourth goal. Reduced to ten men, the hosts had no route back.
Inter continued to control possession and tempo. Substitute Luis Henrique added the fifth two minutes from time. His fierce half volley sealed a comprehensive victory.
It was Henrique’s first goal for the club. The bench celebrated a performance built on collective dominance. Inter finished the night with a clean sheet and total authority.
Dimarco delivered a masterclass from wing back. He became only the second full back since 2004-05 to register three assists in a Serie A away game. His league assist tally now stands at 11, more than any defender at this stage.
Lautaro’s goal took him to 171 for Inter in all competitions. He is now joint third on the club’s all-time scoring list. Inter have also won eight consecutive away league matches for the third time in their history.
Inter sit top with 58 points from 24 matches. They lead second placed AC Milan, who have played one game fewer, by eight points. The title race momentum is firmly with the Nerazzurri.
Sassuolo remain 11th with 29 points. Fabio Grosso’s side must regroup quickly ahead of their next league fixture against Udinese. Inter march on with confidence and depth. They face Juventus in Serie A before travelling to Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League knockout stage.
