Jamal Musiala is set to return for Bayern Munich six months after a leg break, as Vincent Kompany plans careful reintegration ahead of RB Leipzig clash.
Jamal Musiala is set to return to the Bayern Munich squad six months after suffering a serious leg injury. The 22-year-old has been sidelined since July after breaking his left leg and dislocating his ankle. The injury occurred during a Club World Cup quarter final against Paris St Germain. Since then, Musiala has missed the entire first half of the Bundesliga season.
Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany confirmed the Germany international could feature against RB Leipzig on Saturday. Musiala has been back in full training for two weeks and has responded well physically. Kompany stressed the final decision would depend on the last training session. The plan, however, is for Musiala to be involved in the matchday squad.
Kompany has repeatedly called for patience as Musiala makes his return. The Bayern boss does not expect immediate match winning performances. Instead, the focus is on steady integration and rebuilding rhythm. Musiala has endured the longest injury layoff of his career.
The coach described Musiala as emerging from a difficult period with renewed positivity. He believes the setback could help the player appreciate the game even more. Bayern are taking a cautious approach to avoid any relapse. Alphonso Davies, also returning from injury, will be managed in a similar way.
Before the injury, Musiala was enjoying one of the best seasons of his career. He scored 21 goals and provided eight assists across all competitions in the 2024/25 campaign. His contributions played a major role in Bayern securing the Bundesliga title. He was also influential for Germany at Euro 2024, scoring three goals in five matches.
Musiala’s return adds further depth to a Bayern side already dominating domestically. The league leaders have collected 47 points after 17 games. That total matches the highest ever at the halfway stage of a Bundesliga season. Bayern have also scored 66 league goals, more than any team has managed at this point.
While Musiala’s comeback dominates attention, Bayern’s overall form has been relentless. Harry Kane continues to lead the line with consistent scoring displays. Luis Diaz has also impressed, recording nine goals and nine assists in the league. Bayern average 19.5 shots per game, the highest in the division.
Defensively, they remain solid despite rotation. Leipzig, meanwhile, sit third but trail Bayern by 15 points. They come into the game after a 2-0 win over Freiburg. Captain Willi Orban remains central to their defensive structure.
Bayern travel to Leipzig aiming to extend their unbeaten Bundesliga run to 27 matches. They have scored at least twice in each of their last 25 league games. Leipzig have won only two of 19 Bundesliga meetings with Bayern. The reverse fixture earlier this season ended in a 6-0 win for the champions.
For Musiala, even limited minutes would mark a major milestone. Bayern’s priority is keeping him fit for the decisive stages of the season. With the title race intensifying and European fixtures ahead, his return could prove timely.
