Christopher Nkunku scores twice and Pulisic adds a third as AC Milan beat Verona 3-0 at San Siro to move two points clear at the top of Serie A.
AC Milan moved two points clear at the top of Serie A with a convincing 3-0 win over Hellas Verona. Christopher Nkunku scored twice in the second half to seal the result. Christian Pulisic had earlier broken the deadlock just before the interval. The victory kept the pressure firmly on Inter and Napoli.
Massimiliano Allegri’s side dominated large spells without forcing many early openings. Ruben Loftus Cheek went closest before the break with a powerful drive that flashed wide. Milan stayed patient and were rewarded late in the half. Their control became more evident after the restart.
The opening goal arrived in first half stoppage time. Luka Modric delivered a corner that Adrien Rabiot flicked on at the near post. Pulisic peeled away at the far post and finished from close range. It was his eighth league goal of the season.
Since joining Milan in 2023, Pulisic has now been involved in 50 Serie A goals. Only Inter’s Lautaro Martinez has more over the same period. The American continues to deliver in decisive moments. His goal changed the tone of the contest.
Milan struck quickly after the interval to put the game beyond Verona. Just 51 seconds into the second half, Nkunku was fouled in the area by Victor Nelsson. The French forward calmly converted the penalty into the bottom left corner. It was his first Serie A goal.
Nkunku was not finished there. In the 53rd minute, he reacted quickest after Montipo tipped Modric’s effort onto the post. The rebound was turned home from close range. He scored with both of his shots, both classed as big chances.
Verona struggled to respond as Milan tightened their grip. The visitors thought they had pulled a goal back late on through Gift Orban. However, the effort was ruled out after a foul on Mike Maignan in the buildup. It summed up a frustrating afternoon.
Milan have now won 10 consecutive league matches against Verona. They have also recorded five straight home victories over them for the first time. Allegri’s side rarely looked troubled. Verona were limited to brief spells of pressure.
Nkunku ended an 11 match Serie A goal drought in style. Only Rabiot attempted more shots in the match. Nkunku completed all six of his passes in the final third. His efficiency was key to Milan’s second half control.
Milan remain unbeaten in Serie A since losing on opening day in August. They have now extended that run deep into 2026. Allegri believes the title may require over 82 points this season. Wins like this could prove decisive.
Pulisic’s opener gave Milan momentum at a crucial moment. Nkunku’s brace showed his natural instincts in the box. Modric’s delivery and shooting created constant danger. The hosts controlled tempo throughout the second half.
Allegri praised Nkunku’s mentality after the game. He stressed there is still room for improvement. The signs, however, were very encouraging. Milan looked every bit a title contender.
AC Milan return to action against Cagliari on January 2nd. They then host Genoa on January 8th. Away trips to Fiorentina and Como follow shortly after. Verona host Torino next on January 4th, before facing Napoli on January 7th.
