Harry Kane scored deep into stoppage time to earn Bayern Munich a 2-2 draw at Union Berlin, ending their record 16-game winning streak.
Harry Kane’s stoppage-time header salvaged a point for Bayern Munich as their record 16-match winning streak ended with a 2-2 draw at Union Berlin. The England captain’s goal came in the 93rd minute, denying Union a famous victory in front of 22,000 fans at the Alte Försterei.
Danilho Doekhi scored twice for the hosts, while Luis Díaz’s stunning strike briefly brought Bayern level in the first half. Despite controlling much of the game, Vincent Kompany’s side were forced to settle for a point in their toughest Bundesliga test yet.
Union Berlin started fearlessly, pressing high and unsettling Bayern’s rhythm. They thought they had taken an early lead when Ilyas Ansah nodded home, but VAR ruled the goal out for offside.
The hosts finally broke through in the 27th minute. Bayern failed to deal with a Janik Haberer corner, and Doekhi’s scuffed effort squirmed under Manuel Neuer’s hand. It was the first time Bayern had conceded in the first half this season, and their first time trailing in any competition since August.
Bayern’s equaliser came just ten minutes later through a moment of magic from Díaz. Collecting a wayward Josip Stanišić pass on the byline, the Colombian winger turned past his marker and blasted the ball high into the near corner from a tight angle.
That goal injected life into Bayern’s attack, but Union held firm. The hosts’ defensive line, marshalled by Leopold Querfeld, Diogo Leite, and Doekhi, absorbed sustained pressure while threatening on the counter through Haberer, Ilyas Ansah, and Rani Khedira.
Union’s resilience was rewarded again in the 83rd minute. From another set piece, Bayern failed to clear the danger, and Doekhi bundled in his second of the match to restore the lead. The home crowd erupted, sensing a historic win over the reigning champions.
Kompany threw on Nicolas Jackson to chase an equaliser, and Bayern piled forward relentlessly. Just as Union looked poised to celebrate, Bischof whipped in a cross that Kane met perfectly, guiding his header past Frederik Rønnow for his 13th league goal of the season.
Doekhi was the standout player, scoring twice and making six clearances at the back. Díaz’s goal was a highlight-reel moment, while Kane showed why he remains one of Europe’s most clinical strikers.
Bayern finished with 74% possession, 12 shots, and an xG of 1.41 compared to Union’s 0.8. Michael Olise was the most pressed player on the pitch, facing pressure 38 times.
Bayern return from the international break to face Freiburg at home on November 22nd as they aim to restart their title charge. The Bavarians play Arsenal in the Champions League four days later on November 26th. Union Berlin, buoyed by this spirited performance, will travel to St. Pauli on November 23rd looking to build on their best display of the season.
