Chelsea eased past managerless Wolves 3–0 at Stamford Bridge with Garnacho starring in a dominant second-half display that lifted the Blues to second.
Chelsea climbed to second in the Premier League with a commanding 3–0 win over managerless Wolverhampton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge. After being booed off at half-time, Enzo Maresca’s men responded with a ruthless second-half performance to claim all three points.
Malo Gusto, Joao Pedro, and Pedro Neto were on target for the Blues, who are now just six points behind league leaders Arsenal. Wolves, still searching for their first league win of the season, remain bottom with only two points after 11 games.
Despite dominating early possession, Chelsea struggled to find a breakthrough before the interval. Enzo Fernandez and Alejandro Garnacho both tested Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, while Joao Pedro dragged a shot narrowly wide.
Wolves, led temporarily by academy coaches James Collins and Richard Walker, offered little going forward and failed to register a single shot in the opening half. The home fans showed their frustration, voicing their displeasure as the teams left the pitch goalless.
Six minutes into the second half, Chelsea finally broke the deadlock. Garnacho’s pinpoint cross from the left found Gusto unmarked at the back post, and the French full-back headed home his first senior goal in 165 appearances.
Substitute Estevão made an instant impact soon after, creating Joao Pedro’s goal with a low cross that the Brazilian striker smashed in from close range. Garnacho then led a lightning counterattack, sprinting down the left before squaring for Neto to score against his former club and seal the win.
Garnacho was the standout performer, providing two assists and tormenting Wolves’ defense throughout. Fernandez dictated play from midfield, registering a team-high five shots and 11 final-third entries. Gusto’s long-awaited goal and Estevão’s energetic cameo added to an evening of positives for Chelsea.
For Wolves, it was another difficult outing. They managed just three attempts all night, none on target, and had only 35% possession. Jean-Ricner Bellegarde’s wild long-range strike in the 60th minute was their first real attempt on goal.
Chelsea registered 20 shots to Wolves’ three, enjoyed 64% possession, and completed nearly double the passes. The Blues have now had 11 different scorers in the league this season, equaling Arsenal and Brighton for the most. Wolves’ total of two points after 11 matches equals their worst-ever top-flight start since 1983–84.
Chelsea travel to Burnley on Saturday, November 22nd, before hosting Barcelona in the Champions League three days later. Wolves, meanwhile, will hope for a reset under incoming manager Rob Edwards when they welcome Crystal Palace to Molineux after the international break.
