A change has occurred at the peak of the Roshn Saudi League standings, with Al Hilal climbing above city rivals Al Nassr following success on Sunday evening.

The reigning 2023-24 title holders took advantage of Al Nassr’s first setback of the season, which came two days earlier, by overcoming Damac 2-0 away from home.

Strikes on either side of the interval from Darwin Nunez and Marcos Leonardo proved decisive, allowing Al Hilal to preserve their flawless run in the competition.

The result extended Simone Inzaghi’s team’s momentum to nine consecutive league wins, underlining their consistency during the opening phase of the campaign.

Inzaghi reflects on disciplined display

With 13 matches completed, Al Hilal now occupies first place for the first time this season, holding a one-point advantage over Al Nassr.

Al Taawoun remains in third position, trailing the leaders by an additional three points as the title race begins to take shape.

After the final whistle, Inzaghi highlighted his players’ composure, noting that they limited a Damac side that had enjoyed an impressive recent run in front of goal.

The Italian coach also expressed relief at emerging from a demanding encounter without fitness concerns, praising his squad’s approach and execution.

Attention turns to matchweek 14 and derby clash

League action resumes on Thursday, with Al Hilal set to begin Matchweek 14 at home against Al Hazem.

Later the same night, Al Nassr will return to action at Al Awwal Park, hosting an Al Qadsiah side showing renewed form.

Looking further ahead, anticipation is already building for the Capital Derby, as Al Hilal and Al Nassr are scheduled to meet in the following round on January 12.
