Negotiations have yet to produce a breakthrough with the 30-year-old, a situation that has reportedly caught the attention of major European clubs. Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and even domestic rivals Juventus are all noted as monitoring developments, according to recent reports.
The Rossoneri are believed to be working intensely to keep hold of Maignan, with reports stating there is internal confidence that an extension can be reached. Boxing Day updates suggest Milan have put forward a package worth around €7 million per season (net), bonuses included, a figure that would bring him level with Rafael Leão at the top of the club’s wage structure.
This proposal is understood to cover a duration running up to 2029 or 2030. However, Maignan’s camp is said to be targeting terms beginning at €7.5 million a year, creating a gap that still needs to be bridged for an agreement to materialise.
Should Milan fail to secure fresh terms, planning for the long term may lead them to alternative options. Corinthians’ Brazilian keeper Hugo Souza has emerged as a possible successor if an extension cannot be arranged. Zion Suzuki also appeared on the club’s radar before his recent injury setback, with the young stopper previously regarded as an appealing profile for the future.
For now, though, Milan’s priority remains clear: convincing Maignan to commit the next chapter of his career to San Siro.
