Al Wasl wrapped up their AFC Champions League Two 2025/26™ Group A journey without a loss, sealing a 2-1 triumph over Al Wehdat at Zabeel Stadium on Wednesday. The UAE outfit concluded with 14 points to claim first place, while Esteghlal FC of the Islamic Republic of Iran secured second place.

Constant pressure from the home contingent paid dividends in the 19th minute. Adryelson, completely unmarked, met Pedro Malheiro’s well-placed corner and sent a firm header beyond a motionless Abdallah Al Fakhouri to spark celebrations.

The tempo dipped following the opener, gifting Al Wehdat room to respond. Mohannad Semreen tested Khaled Aljneibi with a sharp effort from the edge of the area, forcing the goalkeeper into a full-stretch save.

Semreen tried again before the interval with a similar attempt that Aljneibi gathered comfortably. Right before the whistle, Malheiro threatened with a low drive from 18 yards, but Al Fakhouri managed to palm it away.

Equaliser catches hosts off guard

After the restart, Al Wasl resumed their attacking initiative but lacked clear opportunities in front of goal. Neither team crafted anything decisive until deep into the second period.

In the 71st minute, Al Wehdat stunned the home crowd. Wajdi Nabhan delivered a telling ball into the danger zone, and Mostafa Moawad reacted quickly, striking from close range to bring the score level.

That response momentarily shifted the momentum in favour of the visitors, who looked to frustrate the group leaders by tightening their defensive shape and blocking off passing lanes.

However, Al Wasl maintained composure and kept probing for a response, determined to protect their unbeaten streak and group status.

Lima’s finish secures top spot

Relief arrived for the home supporters in the 79th minute. A rebound spilled from an Al Fakhouri save, and Fabio Lima — perfectly positioned inside the box — calmly turned the loose ball into the net from the edge of the six-yard area.

The decisive strike restored Al Wasl’s advantage, and this time they held firm. Remaining disciplined until the final whistle, the Dubai side ensured their record stayed intact and their campaign progressed on a high.

With a place at the summit assured and no defeats across their group matches, Al Wasl march on with increasing confidence.
