Egypt’s Pyramids FC collected a significant continental accolade after being recognised as the Interclub Team of the Year during the CAF Awards event in Morocco.

The club earned the distinction following an impressive run that culminated in their maiden CAF Champions League triumph.

In only their second attempt at the tournament, they edged South African powerhouse Mamelodi Sundowns 3-2 across two legs to lift the trophy.

Their season also included victory in the FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup, where they defeated Saudi outfit Ahly Jeddah 3-1 on home soil.

Pyramids remain in contention for the domestic league title as they await the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s ruling regarding their appeal over the Egyptian Premier League’s earlier decision in favour of Ahly.

Mayele captures Interclub Player of the Year

Congolese attacker Fiston Mayele secured the Interclub Player of the Year honour after a defining campaign for Pyramids. His six-goal tally placed him at the top of the CAF Champions League scoring chart, reinforcing his importance in the club’s continental journey.

Mayele further underlined his influence with a three-goal display against Ahly Jeddah in their intercontinental cup triumph.

The forward’s performances were deemed superior to those of his teammate Mohamed Chibi, as well as RS Berkane striker Oussama Lamlioui, who were the other shortlisted contenders.

Recognition for a season of milestones

The dual achievements for Pyramids FC and Mayele reflect a season marked by first-time successes and decisive moments.

The club’s continental trophy haul strengthened their case for a landmark year within African football.

Their accomplishments also underscore the rapid impact the team has made despite their brief history in elite competition.

For Mayele, the award capped a run of crucial goals and standout displays that shaped Pyramids’ campaign on multiple fronts.
