In the face of a difficult debut season, Manchester United defender Leny Yoro has firmly stated he has "no regrets" about his decision to join the club, insisting he is "really happy" with his choice. The 19-year-old Frenchman, who arrived from Lille in a £52 million deal in July 2024, chose the Premier League path despite significant interest from Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid.
Yoro's first year at Old Trafford was a baptism of fire, marred by injury and the team's collective struggles. The campaign concluded with a disappointing 15th-place Premier League finish—the club's lowest since 1990—and a Europa League final defeat to Tottenham, which denied them European qualification for the current season. Reflecting on this challenging period, Yoro told The Guardian, “Even with last season, I never had this feeling of regret.” He emphasized his long-term belief in the club, adding, “I know Manchester United, I know sometimes you can have a bad season, but this club is a top club, so you cannot have doubts about this. I knew the project of the club before I came.”
The young defender acknowledged the results were below expectations but highlighted the supportive environment at the club as a key factor in his positive outlook. “Of course I cannot expect the first year to finish in 15th position. These are some things you need to face also,” Yoro stated. “But you have the director of the club, the coach, all the players, they are here to push you every day... Today my choice is Manchester, so I’m really happy with this.”
This commitment is now being rewarded with a significant upturn in form. After a slow start to the 2025-26 season, United are currently on a four-match unbeaten run in the league, with victories over Sunderland, Liverpool, and Brighton, alongside a draw with Nottingham Forest. This impressive resurgence earned manager Ruben Amorim the Premier League's Manager of the Month award for October. Amorim, deflecting praise onto his squad, said, "I think they deserve full credit for this award... I just expect to win the next one because it is a sign we won football matches."
The next challenge for Yoro and his resurgent United side is a trip to face Tottenham Hotspur this Saturday. The match is a poignant reminder of last season's Europa League final heartbreak, where a Brennan Johnson goal for Spurs sealed United's fate. While United travel to North London in high spirits, Tottenham will be looking to build momentum after a mixed run of form. Following a defeat to Chelsea that saw them booed off by their own fans, Spurs responded emphatically with a 4-0 Champions League victory over Copenhagen, a match in which Johnson was also on the scoresheet. The fixture promises to be a stern test of United's newfound resilience and Yoro's continued development at the heart of their defense.
